I imagine she was in such a blind rage that she was beyond rational thought.

It is a sad fact that in most cultures (by no means just muslim ones), women frequently blame another woman rather than their man for his infidelity or promiscuity or whatever, even it is pretty obvious that the guy is the one she should be getting at. Besides, I suppose if she had gone near the Men's tent, she might have been apprehended.

I know this is a really horrible thing to say, but if she hated her husband so much, why didn't she set fire to his tent?

The whole thing is so awful. I wonder if she fully realised what would happen. I guess she must have done.

I remember i met a greek man who used to buy young good looking women from south america at around 2500 usd and use them in production of porn movies. He was very unhappy about the rising prices of latino girls those days.

Made in hollywood or may be bollywood. I seriously doubt the authenticity of the video as taking pictures of animals and humans is forbidden in islam and specially taking pictures/videos of women is a taboo in these areas. If the people in the video really are taliban,they couldnt have made a video and wont let anyone do it either.
Before attacking afghanistan many such videos were spammed on world media to change public opinnion about the allied armed campain. Now as they are attacking these areas in pakistan with drones and missiles and killing people on the basis of suspicion only, occasional release of such engineerd or payed for videos will do a good job in moulding public opinnion. Sorry i forgot to login before writing this comment.

I agree and even think that schoolkids should be subject to watching this at school in social science or whatever the hell it's called. They are the people that will affect real change in the world not us, so they should make up their minds about the world after being given the whole picture, not the skewed view from their front door!

Thank God we live in the West. I shudder to think that it is purely about geography. It is barbaric and horrific to think that this type of punishment still exists anywhere in the world but we cannot impose our own laws on others, without taking over their countries. I am so grateful that my daughter will not have to suffer this cruelty and i do feel for women in such situations - Amnesty do much to aid situations such as these and attempt to prevent them if anyone is interested.

This is only the Catholic view of Christianity. They're well known for being quite legalistic.

Her step-father abused his power. Children are supposed to be protected by their parents, and indeed by other members of the Christian faith.

The parents let down the child. They did not care for her as she should have been cared for. They are accountable for that. BUT. To be excommunicated? That's a man-made law. I can't find a thing to uphold that in the New Testament.

i have just read it now, it is so hard to believe that these things can happen. I am doing my social work degree at the moment and we are asked to expore our own values and ethics. Principles which we have gained through our own upbringing and societal influences, but this type of mentality shows how, as human beings there is no inner core of what is right or wrong, mob mentalilty and ignorance can still turn people into savages. people can still be victimised and persecuted, and for what? because some abuser takes a shine to them.

It is the most appalling, appalling story. I keep this particular blog for copies of journalistic pieces that turn my guts. Two posts below this, is one about a 13 year old girl stoned to death for being raped, which is making me cry now in anger and anguish there or four months apster first reading it.

This world can be a dreadful place.

This makes me beyond angry. Everyone is entitled to follow their own beiefs, but a 9 year old to be repeatedly abused by her father and in a time when she may look to her faith for some support or inner strength to deal with what has happened to her, she is to be ex communicated. It is bloody ridiculous.

The poor girl so young and vulnerable, everyone in her life has let her down, i don't know how people like that can sleep at night.
